The Netherlands Supports Food Security in Indonesia

BOGOR, – On Wednesday, 29 August 2018 Forum Logistik Peternakan Indonesia (FLPI) organized a national conference themed “Strengthening Network on Animal Logistics Industry”, supported by the Netherlands Initiative for Capacity development in Higher Education (NICHE). The conference invited 200 participants consisting of multi-stakeholders with the aim to share ideas and establish cooperation between higher education, government, business and community farmers.

The multi-year project Animal Logistics Indonesia – Netherlands (ALIN), under the framework of NICHE, has brought together various partners from the Netherlands and Indonesia, with Nuffic as the coordinating agency and with a consortium of implementing partners consisting of Maastricht School of Management (MSM), Aeres Group, Wageningen University (WUR) and Bogor Agricultural University (IPB).

In his opening remarks, Prof. Iskandar Zulkarnaen Siregar, the Director of International Programme of IPB, said “we hope this forum contributes to strengthening the logistic industry in Indonesia”.

Meanwhile Zaldi Ilham Masita, the chairman of Indonesian Logistic Association, in his keynote speech emphasized on the importance of standardization as he said” Indonesia needs standards for animal logistics to move to the next level of automation in order to reduce logistic costs”.

Nanya Burki the Head of Development and Partnerships commented on behalf of Nuffic Neso Indonesia: “I am pleased to witness today the cooperation of multi-stakeholders from Indonesia and the Netherlands in support of improving food safety and food security in Indonesia”.

The Netherlands Initiative for Capacity development in Higher Education (NICHE) is a Netherlands-funded development cooperation programme. By strengthening higher education and technical and vocation education and training (TVET) capacity in partner countries NICHE contributes to economic development and poverty reduction. (JS)
