JAKARTA, KalderaNews.com – Strengthening the academic bond between Europe and Southeast Asia, the European Union Ambassador to Indonesia, Denis Chaibi, officially inaugurated the “EU and Network of University Partners (EUnUP): A Roundtable Session” today at the Ayana Midplaza Jakarta.
The two-day kick-off seminar marks the beginning of a collective network aimed at fostering deeper engagement between the EU and Indonesian higher education institutions.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Chaibi welcomed university delegates and representatives from EU Member States, emphasizing a shared vision of “United in Diversity”.

The ceremony was attended by prominent Indonesian officials, including Ms. Endah T.D. Retnoastuti from the Ministry of Culture and Ms. Ani Nigeriawati from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signaling strong bilateral support for cultural and public diplomacy.
A highlight of the opening was the screening of “Erasmus Alumni: Where Are You Now?”, a video showcasing the long-term impact of EU-Indonesia educational exchanges.
Beyond formal introductions, the program is designed as a dynamic platform for policy dialogue and strategic outlooks.
Sessions led by senior EU officials will cover critical global themes, including the Global Gateway initiative, climate change, and economic cooperation through the EU-Indonesia CEPA.
By bringing together researchers and academic leaders, the EU aims to enhance visibility and create a coherent roadmap for future collaboration in science, research, and student mobility.
The roundtable will conclude with actionable roadmaps, ensuring that the challenges identified by Indonesian universities are transformed into concrete opportunities for international partnership.
The session titled “Lessons Learned from Existing Network and Partnership Modalities” served as a crucial evaluation platform for the implementation of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between the European Union and Indonesian higher education institutions, featuring a marathon of presentations from eight partner universities highlighting tangible progress in projects such as guest lectures, academic visits, and internship programs.
This strategic series of presentations commenced with Airlangga University through its EU Centre, followed in succession by Diponegoro University, Multimedia Nusantara University, Parahyangan Catholic University, Bina Nusantara University (BINUS), the University of Indonesia (UI), Padjajaran University (UNPAD), and concluded by Gadjah Mada University (UGM). Through these discussions, the universities not only shared their successes within EU-funded initiatives but also mapped out future collaborative steps to strengthen academic mobility and cultural exchange between the two regions.
This initiative reaffirms the EU’s commitment to people-to-people cooperation, positioning universities as the primary platform for cultural exchange and long-term strategic growth.
