
JAKARTA, KalderaNews.com – A significant forum titled “EU-Indonesia: Strengthening Impactful Partnerships in Science and Technology” was held today in Jakarta, marking a deepened collaboration between Indonesia and the European Union in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
Hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) of the Republic of Indonesia, in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to Indonesia and EURAXESS Worldwide for ASEAN, the event aimed to boost Indonesia’s involvement in Horizon Europe, the EU’s leading research and innovation program.
The forum attracted over 200 participants, including representatives from Indonesian universities, EU member state embassies, research institutes, and international cooperation agencies.

Prof. Ir. Togar Mangihut Simatupang, M.Tech., Ph.D., Secretary General of Kemdiktisaintek, underscored the critical role of international scientific collaboration in addressing Indonesia’s challenges in science, technology, and innovation (STI).
He highlighted key areas such as increasing R&D investment, strengthening academia-industry linkages, promoting inclusive innovation beyond urban centers, and developing talent among young researchers.
“We are committed to positioning Indonesia as a proactive contributor in the global STI ecosystem through Horizon Europe,” stated Prof. Simatupang, emphasizing the belief that science diplomacy can bridge continents and encourage greater Indonesian participation in European projects.
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Najib Burhani, Director General of Science and Technology of Kemdiktisaintek, delivered a welcome speech, emphasizing the forum’s importance as a gateway to strategic cooperation aligned with Indonesia’s national development goals.
H.E. Denis Chaibi, Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia, reiterated the EU’s dedication to being a reliable partner for Indonesia in building impactful science and innovation networks.
He stated, “Through the EU flagship research and innovation programme called Horizon Europe, the EU reaffirms its commitment to continuing our strong partnership with Indonesia in the field of research innovation, science and technology.”
He further encouraged Indonesian researchers to participate in Horizon Europe, highlighting the program’s unique opportunities for international collaboration, access to cutting-edge research facilities, and contributions to global solutions.
The forum featured in-depth discussions on the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025-2027, funding mechanisms, EU missions, and showcased successful EU-Indonesia project testimonials. The event concluded with a networking reception to foster future collaborations.
