JAKARTA, KalderaNews.com – The ASEAN Youth Organization (AYO) successfully launched the 7th ASEAN Youth Conference 2024 on November 20, marking the start of a three-day event running until November 23 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The conference brought together 80 youth leaders and changemakers from 14 countries, including non-ASEAN nations, emphasizing the vital role of young people in shaping the future of the region. Co-organized with the ASEAN Secretariat and AYO Kreasi Internasional, the event set a new standard for youth participation in regional development.
Under the theme “Investing in YOUth: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience for Our Shared Culture,” the conference spotlighted youth as key agents in realizing the ASEAN Vision 2045, a roadmap for the region’s development beyond 2025. The event focused on promoting sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth across ASEAN, offering a platform for youth-driven ideas and collaboration.

The Opening Ceremony was led by Project Directors Ms. Panda Oundouengphachane and Mr. Abhishek Vats, who emphasized the importance of volunteerism, compassion, and collaboration in helping young people make a positive impact in their communities.
Notable speakers, including H.E. Amb. Bovonethat Douangchak, Permanent Representative of Lao PDR to ASEAN, highlighted the need for youth leadership and regional unity in building resilience. Mrs. Nur Diyana Badarudin, Malaysia’s Counsellor to ASEAN, shared Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship vision focused on inclusivity and environmental sustainability, calling for youth engagement in the ASEAN Youth Work Plan 2021–2025.
The conference features various panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities, designed to foster meaningful exchanges among delegates. It also includes a site visit to the ASEAN Secretariat, where delegates will present their recommendations.
AYO Chairperson Ms. Sarah Rauzana celebrated this milestone year, noting that AYO’s recent recognition with the ASEAN Prize and as an Enabler by the Arab World Youth Council demonstrates the growing influence of youth-led initiatives in ASEAN. She emphasized that youth-driven policies are crucial to ASEAN’s long-term success and that AYO is committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders.
The ASEAN Youth Conference 2024 reaffirms AYO’s role as a vital bridge between young changemakers and regional policymakers, enhancing the leadership potential of youth in shaping the future of ASEAN.
