DUTEP showcases Dutch-Indonesian innovative water and urban solutions ahead of Jakarta’s milestone 500th anniversary.
JAKARTA, KalderaNews.com – The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta hosted a special Dutch Training and Exposure Programme (DUTEP) knowledge-sharing event, bringing together alumni, current participants, government officials, and institutional partners to strengthen bilateral water collaboration between Indonesia and the Netherlands and showcase innovative solutions for Jakarta’s urban development ahead of its 500 th anniversary in 2027.
The highlight of the event were the presentations by DUTEP 2024 alumnus Hendy Satrio Aji, and Ismael Naufal Azkiarizqi, participant from the 2026 cohort to Dr. Dyan Airlangga, Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta.
Drawing on insights from the programme in the Netherlands, the presentations focused on practical and forward-looking initiatives that can contribute to Jakarta’s long-term ambition of becoming one of the world’s top 20 global cities by 2045.

One of the programme’s tangible success stories is Taman Gapura Muka Cakung, a newly inaugurated public park in East Jakarta developed by Hendy following his placement with the Municipality of Rotterdam.
Inspired by Rotterdam’s ZoHo Rain Garden and Benthemplein, the park incorporates a rainwater harvesting system that reflects the practical application of Dutch knowledge to local conditions, demonstrating the long-term impact of DUTEP beyond the training programme itself.
“DUTEP is a valuable investment in Jakarta’s future. By learning from Rotterdam and the Netherlands, our officials gain practical knowledge and global perspectives that strengthen our capacity to build a more resilient, sustainable, and liveable Jakarta. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to innovation and long-term collaboration,” said by Dr. Dyan Airlangga.
Since its establishment in 2014, DUTEP has provided Indonesian government professionals with intensive training and institutional exchanges in the Netherlands, equipping participants with practical expertise in coastal protection, sustainable water management, spatial planning, nature-based solutions, and more.
Through direct engagement with Dutch industry partners, participants are encouraged to identify innovative approaches that can be adapted to Indonesia’s local context.
The programme is supported by the Governments of Indonesia and the Netherlands, together with a consortium of water stakeholders and knowledge partners in the Netherlands including Van Oord, NX Filtration, Bosman Water, Fugro, City of Rotterdam, Waterboard Delfland, Deltares and the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. The programme is coordinated by Nuffic Southeast Asia.
As one the programme’s longest-standing participating institutions, the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has consistently leveraged DUTEP to strengthen institutional capacity, deepen its sister city relationship with Rotterdam, and foster the exchange of knowledge and innovation that support the city’s ongoing development agenda.
The event also featured a talk show with representatives from NX Filtration, PT Van Oord Indonesia, and Fugro, highlighting opportunities for continued collaboration between government, academia, and industry in addressing Jakarta’s future urban and water challenges.
By bringing together participants at different stages of the DUTEP journey, the event reinforced DUTEP’s focus on continuous learning, cross-institutional collaboration, and the practical application of international best practices.
The proposals presented today represent an important step toward translating international knowledge into meaningful local action, ensuring that Jakarta’s 500th anniversary serves not only as a celebration of its history but also as a milestone in shaping its future.
