Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti and Thailand’s Education Minister agreed to renew the education MoU, focusing on teacher-student exchanges and AI training.
SINGAPORE, KalderaNews.com – The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) of the Republic of Indonesia is continuing to strengthen its international diplomatic network.
Most recently, Indonesia and the Royal Government of Thailand have agreed to renew their bilateral cooperation in the education sector to open broader learning opportunities for students and teachers while strengthening people-to-people ties between the two nations.
This strategic agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, and Thailand’s Minister of Education, Prasert Jantararuangtong.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 14th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (ASED) at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore on Wednesday (22/7/2026).
Scope of Cooperation: Student Exchanges to AI Training
Through the renewal of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), educators and students in Indonesia will gain access to various strategic programs oriented toward the future. Key focus areas of this collaboration include:
- Exchange Programs: Facilitating student and teacher exchanges between the two countries.
- Technological Development: Specialized training on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and learning.
- Academic Collaboration: Exchange of academic publications and the offering of Indonesia’s flagship Darmasiswa program to strengthen educational diplomacy between Jakarta and Bangkok.
Minister Abdul Mu’ti explained that the renewal of this agreement, which had previously expired is designed to deliver concrete benefits for improving global perspectives and digital skills within educational units.
“We met with the Minister of Education of Thailand to discuss the cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand, which had expired some time ago, although cooperative programs have remained actively running. Today, it was agreed that next month there will be a signing of the cooperation to strengthen teacher and student exchange programs, AI learning, and AI training,” stated Minister Mu’ti.
Shared Commitment Ahead of the August 2026 MoU Signing
Meanwhile, Thai Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong warmly welcomed this comprehensive partnership. He noted that the collaboration spans a broad spectrum of education, ranging from early childhood education, primary and secondary levels, to vocational education.
“We believe that this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a crucial step. Not only can we exchange academic knowledge across various levels of education including vocational, but we can also collaborate on qualification recognition, research, and scholarship provisions with our neighbor in ASEAN, Indonesia,” expressed Prasert Jantararuangtong.
The official signing of the education cooperation MoU between Indonesia and Thailand is scheduled to take place in August 2026, coinciding with the Thai Education Minister’s official visit to Indonesia.
Through this synergy, Kemendikdasmen remains committed to delivering relevant learning experiences adapted to modern developments, expanding growth spaces for teachers and students, and ensuring the benefits of its diplomacy are felt broadly by the public.
