BOGOR, KalderaNews.com – President Prabowo Subianto expressed his concern regarding the condition of educational infrastructure in Indonesia.

During the commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2025 and the implementation of the President’s Quick Best Results Program (PHTC) at SD Negeri Cimahpar 5, Bogor City, West Java, on Friday (May 2, 2025), Prabowo highlighted the allocation of the education budget, which he deemed not yet optimal.

“The government has allocated Rp 17 trillion ($44 billion)  to improve education. However, this amount is only sufficient for 11,000 schools, while the total number of schools is around 436,707 units. So, if we repair 11,000, it might take 30 years until all these schools can be repaired,” Prabowo stated.

The President also addressed the issue of existing budgets that have not been maximized properly. He urged all regional heads to participate in overseeing the budget and the implementation of education in each region.

“We still see, and we know that there are so many damaged schools. Even though, if we are open about it, the budget is there. How can a school have only one toilet, one WC? I am reminding the responsibility of regional governments, the responsibility of mayors, regents, and governors together,” he emphasized.

Nevertheless, Prabowo called on the public not to give up and to continue striving to improve school conditions. He pledged to continue seeking ways to optimize the budget, including through savings.

“This is what I am constantly thinking about with my ministers. I am constantly thinking about how we can find money. How we can manage our wealth. Because, frankly, I have repeatedly said that Indonesia’s wealth is still being leaked too much and not reaching the people,” he added.

Prabowo stressed the importance of education in determining the nation’s future. “Education determines whether this country wants to be a poor country or a country that is good for its people. Education is the determining factor, and education has received a large allocation,” he said.

Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti explained that the main priority is the revitalization and digitalization of schools. From the state budget allocation, Rp 16.9 trillion will be allocated for infrastructure improvement and Rp 2 trillion for digitalization.

“Children will learn more enthusiastically and enjoyably with smart classrooms,” he explained.
