MANILA, KalderaNews.com – The Youth Sounding Board for the European Union in ASEAN (YSBEA) officially convened in Manila today, marking a critical milestone in shaping the future of ASEAN-EU relations.

This high-level gathering focused on drafting policy recommendations ahead of the highly anticipated Golden 50th Anniversary in 2027.

In a session titled “Youth Perspectives for the Golden 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-EU relations”, 24 youth representatives from across the Southeast Asian region collaborated to provide strategic input.

Aligning with the Philippine ASEAN Chairship 2026

Hosted by the EU Mission to ASEAN and the EU Delegation to the Philippines, the event aligned with the 2026 Philippine ASEAN Chairship theme: “Navigating Our Future, Together.” The Philippines’ roadmap emphasizes security anchors, prosperity corridors, and people empowerment.

“Meaningful youth participation is ever more necessary than before. As present and future leaders, young people need to be empowered to thrive,” said Jerome Montemayor, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre on Biodiversity (ACB).

A Force for Peace and Prosperity

The Ambassador of the EU to ASEAN, Sujiro Seam, encouraged the youth to take an active role in navigating current global geopolitical and economic crises.

The YSBEA members, established under the Youth Action Plan for EU External Action, serve as a bridge between youth voices and international policy-making.

As the 2027 anniversary approaches, these core youth recommendations will be presented to regional leaders, ensuring that the next 50 years of ASEAN-EU relations are built on the foundations of innovation, sustainability, and youth-led progress.
