Synergy to Build Character-Driven Generations
The training was attended by 30 teachers from various prestigious public high schools in Jakarta, including SMAN 8, SMAN 68, and SMAN 112. To ensure effective learning and professional networking, participants were required to attend the sessions in full and stay at the venue throughout the event.
The event was officially opened by Juwarto, Head of the Educator Section at the Jakarta Provincial Education Office, alongside PIER Director Djayadi Hanan and KAS Representative for Indonesia, Cynthia Tri Putri.
“In the digital era, knowledge is at a student’s fingertips through gadgets. However, the role of humanities teachers remains irreplaceable in ensuring students remain whole human beings who understand the purpose and meaning of life,” Juwarto stated during his opening remarks.
Training Curriculum: From Theory to Practice
The program featured a lineup of experts and education practitioners, including Djayadi Hanan, Ph.D., and Dr. Mohammad Abduhzen. Participants engaged in a comprehensive curriculum, covering:
- Pancasila Democracy Paradigms: Emphasizing freedom, equality, and respect for diversity.
- Democratic Principles: Exploring popular sovereignty, deliberation, rules of engagement, and control mechanisms in state life.
- Global Issues in Democracy: Providing a broader perspective on democratic challenges at both national and international levels.
- Participative Learning Methods: Utilizing andragogy and pedagogy to foster dialogic, critical, and participatory classroom environments.
Real-World Implementation in Schools
A crucial component of the training was the development of an Action Plan. Teachers were guided to formulate strategies to integrate democratic values into their respective subjects.
Furthermore, educators were equipped with skills to utilize the internet as a healthy learning resource, helping them navigate the rapid flow of digital information in schools.
This program reflects the ongoing commitment of PIER Paramadina and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) to enhance the capacity of teachers as agents of change.
By equipping educators with national values and democratic culture, schools are expected to become laboratories for nurturing a healthy democracy for Indonesia’s future generations.
